Privacy Policy


Coast Group Limited and its subsidiaries including Displayworks Limited, Show Light and Power Limited, Exhibition Hire Services Limited, Carlton Events Hire Ltd, Carlton Party Hire Limited and Carpet & Rug Hire Limited (Coast or we/us) is a supplier and lessor of Goods and provider of related services to its customers (together, Services).


This Privacy Policy applies to users of the Services and any other user that participates in any form of the Services. A user interacts with Coast in different ways, including the website coastgroup.co.nz (Website), and any other application or registration form, including our Terms (together the System).


This Privacy Policy is used to inform you of Coast's policies relating to the use, collection and disclosure of personal information when you use the Services or the System. It also provides for the rights customers and users have in respect of their personal information. When we talk about personal information, we mean personal identifi able information that you supply to us in the course of receiving the Services or using the System.


By using the Services, you agree to be bound by the terms of our then current privacy policy (Privacy Policy). Coast reserves the right, at any time, to modify or replace the Privacy Policy. The most recent version of the Privacy Policy is available on our Website. Your use of the Services following the posting of any changes to the Privacy Policy constitutes acceptance of those changes.


By accessing the Website and Services or interacting with the System you consent to Coast collecting, using and disclosing any personal information about you that is provided by you or another person, in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Collection of personal information

The nature of the Services requires that individuals using the Services disclose to Coast personal information relating to them. Personal information is information about an identifi able individual.


The type of personal information we collect or which we may hold about you may include, but is not limited to:


  • Your name, address, the address of any other location where any of our Goods may be located while in your possession, phone number, email address, credit checking information, proof of identifi cation, purchase, billing and shipping information, payment data such as your credit or debit card number and other card information and other account authentication information, interactions with Coast;
  • Driver's license and details of any qualifi cations you may hold where that is reasonably required to enable us to provide the Services;
  • System usage information including answers to questionnaires, responses clicked and features used;
  • Any other personal information that is reasonably required by Coast to carry on its business.


You have no obligation to provide Coast with any personal information that is requested by us. However, if you choose not to provide us with such information, we may be unable to provide you with the full benefi t of our Services.

How we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information in the following ways:


  • When we receive information you provide, including by telephone, account application forms, email or via our Website
  • When we collect information publicly available on the internet - including public websites, social media platforms, networking sites or directories.
  • When personal information is provided to us from a third party, including referrals, business partners, event organisers and publicly available sources.
  • When we collect tracking information collected using cookies; and
  • When we verify identity and other information provided by you.

Information collected indirectly

In some circumstances, Coast Group may collect personal information about you from a source other than directly from you. This may include publicly available websites, social media platforms, public networking sites, referrals, event registrations, business partners, marketing providers or other 3rd parties.


When we collect your personal information indirectly, we will ensure reasonable steps have been taken to inform you of:


  • The fact your data has been collected
  • The purpose for which your data was collected
  • The intended recipients of that data
  • The organisation that is collecting and holding your data
  • Your right to access, change and request removal of your data
  • Any other information that is required as per the Privacy Act 2020.

This notifi cation may be provided to you directly or through one of our communication channels.

Purpose of collection of your personal information

We only collect information that is necessary for the purposes of the Services, including to assess credit worthiness, to facilitate supply of Goods, to assist and provide proper delivery of Goods and other Services, for warranty purposes, to arrange or process payments, for our promotional, marketing and/or Service improvement purposes; or required for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject. For the avoidance of doubt, we will also use personal information.

Using your personal information

We understand the importance of using your personal information in a responsible and secure manner. Your personal information may only be used by Coast under the following circumstances:


  • To contact you, or your referees;
  • To identify you and for the operation and maintenance of your Coast account;
  • To enable us to provide and operate the Services to you;
  • Dealing with requests, enquiries, complaints, technical and applications support and other customer services;
  • To communicate with prospective customers regarding products and services that may be relevant to their business interested where permitted by applicable law
  • To analyse information about users, diagnose problems, analyse trends, improve the features and usability of the Services and better understand and market to our customers and users, to improve our content and Services
  • To keep you informed about the Services, features and offers we think you may fi nd useful or which you have requested from us, to better understand your needs or to sell or market additional Services to you that we deem may be of interest to your based on your engagement with Coast Group businesses
  • To register a fi nancing statement within the meaning of the Personal Properties Securities Act 1999 where your possession of any Goods amounts to a deemed security interest within the meaning of that Act;
  • To comply with any legal, government or regulatory obligation;
  • To keep any Goods safe and secure.


We may use your personal information for other purposes which are directly related to those above, as would reasonably be expected by you.

Storage & security & sharing of personal information

We use reasonable technical, administrative and physical security measures designed to safeguard and help prevent unauthorised access to your personal information we collect. We will retain your personal information as long as it is necessary to fulfi l the purposes for which it was collected, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.


We may disclose your personal information to reputable third party providers both within and outside of New Zealand that work with us to provide our Services (whether by facilitating, providing on our behalf, providing Service related services or analysing how our Services are used), or help us to market to customers. This may include (but is not limited to) website service providers, credit agencies for assessment of creditworthiness and manufacturers, for product specifi cations and warranty purposes.


Such third party providers outside of New Zealand may not be required to protect your personal information in a way that, overall, provides comparable safeguards to those in the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. In using the Services or System, you consent to Coast's disclosure of your personal information to its third party providers outside of New Zealand.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to your personal information held by us and to request corrections to your personal information. To exercise your rights you can fi le a request by email to privacy@coastgroup.co.nz. You can ask Coast Group to remove your personal data at any time, however this may affect our ability to provide our services to you.

Cookies

Cookies are fi les with small amounts of data that is commonly used as an anonymous unique identifi er. These are sent to your browser from the Website and are stored on your device's hard drive. Our Website uses “cookies” to collect information and to improve our Services for users. Some cookies are used to generate statistics or to remember your preferences. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some parts of our Services.
